Fue lanzado por la compañía discográfica Capitol Récords en agosto de 2010. Este álbum es el segundo álbum de la cantante, pues en el 2001 publica el álbum que nombro Katy Hudson, fue lanzado por la cantante con su nombre real; Katy Hudson. Le sigue su primer álbum de estudio, con el nombre artístico actual de la cantante Katy Perry, el álbum titulado One of the boys, que fue publicado en junio de 2008 y su primer álbum en vivo MTV Unplugged, que fue publicado en noviembre de 2009. La artista reveló que decidió que su booklet cuente con aroma a algodón de azúcar. Teenage Dream ah vendido cerca de 2.2 millones de copias.
